Perla, located at 539 College St in Toronto, is a charming family-run restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience steeped in home-style cooking. Customers rave about the welcoming ambiance, enhanced by a lovely patio adorned with grapevines—a perfect spot for a leisurely meal. The standout dishes include the exceptional paella, celebrated for its unique seasoning, and the perfectly grilled European sea bass. Reviewers frequently mention the delightful mussels, complemented by a rich broth, ideal for cozy evenings.
While the desserts, such as the rich chocolate mousse, have won hearts, some aspects like the Caesar salad and occasionally dry bread have faced critique. The service, though warm and homely, may sometimes experience delays, mirroring the laid-back, comforting vibe of the establishment.
Patrons, including Winnie Y. He and Tawseef Khan, express an overwhelming sense of joy and satisfaction from their meals, with dishes often described as reminiscent of a grandmother's cooking. Perla embodies a slice of Portugal within Toronto, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking delicious seafood and genuine hospitality.

Such a cute and nice family restaurant. Love their little patio with grapes surrounded. I even have a chance to try the grapes in our dessert. It tastes sooo sweet. Paella is excellent, quite surprising unique seasoning. Not recommend the Cesar salad, too much sauce. Love the PEI mussels with tomato and pepper in it. The dessert is quite my favourite even a little bit sweet for me. But the texture of the chocolate mousse tastes so good. A grandma’s recipe never lose!

Had lovely lunch at Perla Restaurant today. We enjoyed white Sangria, black sword fish, monkfish paella, seafood paella, grilled octopus & Veal cutlets. Food well prepared - home style cooking which we appreciate. Great service. Thank you!

Definitely the mamas and papas style restaurant with good food. It’s a family restaurant run for over 20 years. Tried their grilled seafood and happy with both of their taste and freshness. Especially the grilled Seabass! Grilled tuna was good too. Calamari was a bit dry/overall cooked. Overall a great dining experience. They also have a lovely patio in backyard. Few things could be improved: bread was dry and old, customer service could be a bit better...

What a lovely little place with absolutely delectable food! It’s a family run business and they definitely make their food with lot of love. Everything from the seating, ambiance, decor to the menu and service was top notch. I don’t remember the last time I had such delicious fish in a restaurant! The European sea bass was perfectly cooked with flaky inside and grilled outside. The side dishes of boiled veggies and potatoes was just perfect. The mussels were super tasty and the broth was warm and filling. You would keep going back for it on cold winter nights and you’d love it everytime. The grouper was well done too. The service was homely although be prepared to wait as it’s a family run restaurant and they seem to be a bit stretched at the kitchen. We waited for half an hour while munching on the bread and tuna dipping sauce. Time moves slowly here so be ready to have a nice and slow evening. Highly recommended and can’t wait to be back here!

Loved the meal, it was extremely delicious. The server and the restaurant was homey very hospitable, it felt like a home cooked meal. A slice of Portugal in the heart of Toronto. The Octopus, Paella and Clams were divine. I will be back for sure, no doubt.

We came here for my birthday dinner and couldn’t be happier. Sweet family run restaurant with excellent service and even better food. We each had a bitoque (5 oz steak with an egg, fries, and mushroom sauce) and a shrimp bisque soup and chorizo as an appetizer. Everything was incredible. Very quiet, cozy atmosphere, feels like you’re having dinner in Avo backyard. Will be back again

Oh this place is an absolute gem! Amazing food, amazing service and amazing portions. And we can’t wait to be back! Highly recommend the shrimp bisque and the grilled octopus. And the Steak.... Our whole experience was wonderful and we had the company of a very pleasant Sylvia who was friendly, warm and chatty. We love places which give personalized service and Perla did exactly that.
